Coach Faith Johnson Patterson is one of the most accomplished high school basketball coaches in Minnesota history — and a lifelong mentor to young athletes.

She made history as the first African American woman to coach a team to a Minnesota state basketball championship, earning eight state titles, 500+ career wins, and induction into multiple Halls of Fame.

But her proudest legacy is what her players carry beyond the game: confidence, discipline, leadership, and belief in what’s possible.

Hear From Coach Faith

“As another season comes to an end, I want to give a huge thank you to one of the best basketball coaches in the game — Coach Johnson, Faith Johnson Patterson.

Words cannot express the depth of my gratitude for your unwavering support, guidance, and belief in the young ladies you coach. Moreover, I couldn’t be prouder of the positive impact you have had on Mikayla throughout the season.

Thank you for your devotion and passion that challenged, inspired, and strengthened my daughter overall. Being a former player and now watching my daughter flourish under your leadership, I can attest that your influence really extends beyond games and practices — it’s in the building of players’ confidence, character, accountability, self-discipline, and courage to stretch and grow mentally, physically, and spiritually.

Thank you for all you have done and continue to do in the lives of so many.

Amen. Keep thriving, keep striving, and keep shining.”
